Baguio City. The Philippine Science High School - CAR opened formally in a very simple ceremony outside their temporary campus at BCNHS Annex, San Vicente last June 22, 2009. The school simultaneously opened with another PSHS campus in Pampanga with the hope of giving equal chances to extra talented primary school graduates all over the country. The Philippine Science High School is considered prestigious given the issue on education. Reason why aspiring students wanting to enter the schools have to undergo a rigid series of exams to qualify. With thousands flocking to exam rooms and applications piling up, only a few make it, considered the cream of the crop. The Cordillera Region is now privileged to have had the school put up in Baguio. This makes it possible for more to try to take the qualifying exams given the high qoutient of academically outstanding students here. Mr. Rommel Lengwa, PSHS-CAR Administrator explained that the students usually taken in are those with very high aptitudes in science and mathematics. Now on its pioneering stage, the school has taken in 66 students all over the Cordilleras to start the system rolling.

Ambassador, Tublay, Benguet. In the wake of the continous rainfall the past week, a part of the small mountain visible from the Halsema Highway owned by the Polick family in Tublay, Benguet eroded and exposed a metal protrusion embedded in the soil. Reportedly a child saw it and in curiosity climbed up to check eventually started digging to expose the tail part of a massive vintage bomb. In fear the residents called up the police office of Tublay and Atok (the bomb located in the boundary of Atok and Tublay) between 9-9:30am of June 10, 2009. The swift arrival of the police force and the municipal officials prompted the inspection and further digging of the missile. Camp Dangwa was informed and men from Explosives and Ordinance Division (EOD) were sent to secure the piece.

Baguio City. The June 8, 2009 City Council Session of Baguio City was temporarily put on a casual mood with the appearance of Candy Pangilinan who obligated herself to appear before the body to make amends for the not so nice phrases she uttered last May during her Mother’s Day show at SM Baguio. The popularized “Hindi po ako Igorot, Tao po ako” line has since become a line that got into the nerves of every Cordilleran, just one of the many discriminatory acts thrown to the race of Igorots who have since then been crying for equality and fair treatment.
